Loving what you do

As a Social Media and Marketing Intern here at the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services, I help update events on all social media platforms, market products, create flyers and write a blog every week. I focus on creating new posts each day and prepping for educational programs like KidsSigns and Kids Camp and other related Deaf and Hard of Hearing events.

Working as an Intern here at the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services directly relates to my interests in writing, social media and helping a community that seeks to thrive where little or no resources is made to advance their goals and mission. Even after only a short time working here, I have already learned so much about the Deaf and Hard of Hearing community and the how to be able to interact with them right here in Michigan.

Also, this job will equip me with immense knowledge about helping people. This is a skill which will be helpful in my future job, that is, communicating strategically with others and bringing justice to those that deserve it. Working with the dedicated staff at the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services in executing educational programs, and promoting knowledge of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing community will sharpen my organizational skills, which will be an essential factor in acquiring a good job.

What I love about my job is the fact that I have some independence, I am able to express myself clearly through my work, and I also have a flexible schedule.

My supervisor is the best! She is very understanding about how hectic balancing a college schedule can get. Her love for humanity, educating people about the Deaf and Hard of Hearing community, and teaching kids, is evident in her work as her passion shines through.

Everyone at my workplace is friendly, has a genuine passion for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing community and cares about one another. It is definitely a one-of-a-kind job.
