ASL Classes
American Sign Language I-IV classes are offered at DHHS – Grand Rapids and DHHS – Muskegon twice a year (September-December and February-May).
Most people who take ASL classes are parents, neighbors, employees, employers, or friends of a deaf individual or they simply are interested in sign language! The course runs for 12 weeks at a time.
The fee is $125 for the session plus $30 for the sign language book which covers ASL I-IV.
ASL I – learn ABCs, numbers, names, family, and sentence structures
ASL II - learn advanced vocabulary and introduction to deeper concepts with ASL
ASL III – learn classifiers, pronouns, dialogue and sentences
ASL IV – learn how to converse with each other in daily settings

Tutoring Opportunities
While we do determine on a case by case basis since we want to serve your needs and your budget the best we can, there is no ‘free’ tutoring or scholarships available for tutoring requests. We pay all of our tutors.
The tutoring lessons are customized to fit your needs, your budget, and your skill level. You may bring an ASL course book you are studying or purchase one of our “Signing Illustrated” books for $30.
There is a minimum of 4 hours for $30/hour to start tutoring. A payment plan may be set up. All tutoring sessions are held at Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services.
