Hi.
I’m Kayla Lopucki, and I am the receptionist and interpreter service coordinator at deaf and
hard of hearing services.
I am here today to represent Jennifer Kolhof. She is the workshop coordinator.
In the state of Michigan, professional sign language interpreters are obligated to earn
continuing education units (CEU’s) to help them stay current with a rapidly changing profession.
One way interpreters can get those credits, is to attend workshops to sharpen their interpreting
knowledge and skills. It’s her job to locate presenters willing to share their expertise, and to be
sure that the topics are what the interpreting and Deaf communities want and need.
Deaf and Hard of Hearing services hosts several workshops annually.
On such topics as Deaf/Blind, medical, mental health, legal, and educational interpreting. It’s
her responsibility to make sure that the standards are held high for quality workshops for
Michigan interpreters
