Meet the Board - Mickey Carolan

As we work to provide equal communication access, education and advocacy to the Deaf, DeafBlind, and Hard of Hearing in pursuit of all life’s opportunities, we are grateful to a wide range of partners, including our Board of Directors. We want to share more about them with you. In this installment, we spend a little time with longtime board member Mickey Carolan.

Mickey Carolan says he is a husband and father first who “by day leads a team of International Sales Professionals for UPS.” By night, he adds, he helps his wife with her business, Method Salon, and writes stories that highlight growing up as a CODA (Child of Deaf Adults). He also is an avid reader, weightlifter and youth sports coach.

How did you first get connected to D&HHS?

For years, I was a financial contributor and then in 2015 I attended a board meeting as a guest. The conversation that occurred that day pulled me into joining. The rest is history.

What’s one thing you love about being a D&HHS board member?

Seeing the positive impact our staff has on the community. In addition, the evolution of a business mindset by the D&HHS leadership team has been fantastic.

What would be lost if D&HHS didn’t exist?

The community is already underserved and underrepresented. It would very much exacerbate that problem.

What’s one thing you wish people knew about D&HHS?

How diversified the agency is. We handle interpreting services, advocacy and education. The agency is financially self-sustaining, which is fantastic for a non-profit that receives almost zero state or federal funding.
